At top, a current ad from third-tier Italian fashion house Cesare Paciotti, below, Giacometti's Woman with her Throat Cut, 1932. I was struck by the histrionic, overweening silliness of the ad. Telegraphing popular culture imagery's two greatest transgressives, Paciotti's model is both a mangled corpse on a morgue slab and a sweaty "live sex" peep show worker. I threw in the Giacometti, just because.
